Don’t Overpay at the Start – Which Pool Accessories to Buy Right Away and Which to Add Later?

By planning your investment in stages, you can ensure that your pool is initially equipped with only the essential components, while costly extras are added later—when they are truly needed—without modifications and without overpaying.

Why It’s Worth Planning the Budget in Stages

It’s not uncommon for customers to start with a pool shell and basic equipment, then gradually add extra features over the following seasons. Why?

  • Spreading expenses allows you to match the investment to your current financial capacity and actual needs.

  • Installing the shell with basic equipment is the fastest option—perfect if time is a priority.

  • Even with our advice, some customers aren’t sure if certain features will work for them—after several months of use, the decision is much easier!

Must-Have Equipment from the Start (Filtration, Pump, Skimmer, Basic Lighting)

These components are installed with every Europool shell and are the foundation of pool operation: a pool filter (sand or glass media), filtration pump, skimmer (or overflow channel), necessary piping, lighting (white or RGB), and electrical installations—control box with safety devices and transformer. Without them, the pool simply won’t function—this is the absolute minimum.

Equipment Worth Adding Immediately (Covers, Enclosures, Heat Pump)

Some pool accessories aren’t strictly essential for basic pool use, but many clients choose them right away. Why? Because they make swimming more comfortable and extend the bathing season by several months!

  • Covers and enclosures – protect the water from debris, reduce evaporation, and help maintain water temperature.

  • Heat pump (or another heating system) – efficiently heats the water, allowing you to enjoy the pool for more months each year.

  • Automatic water treatment – chemical dosing stations, salt ionizers, UV lamps – reduce manual control, limit chemical use, and improve comfort.

Adding these at the start saves time and money—retrofitting them later can be more expensive and technically complicated.

Accessories You Can Buy Later (Countercurrent, Cleaning Robots, Water Attractions)

Some pool equipment can easily be added later. Maybe you initially wanted a relaxation pool, but later dream of swim training? Or maybe you want to make cleaning easier?

  • Countercurrent system – perfect for swim training in limited space; can be installed later without altering the pool structure.

  • Robots and automatic vacuums – make cleaning much easier; can be purchased when manual cleaning becomes tiresome.

  • Water attractions (massage jets, fountains, slides) – great for families but not necessary from the start.

How to Stage the Investment to Avoid Modifications

  • Stage 1 – Start: shell installation, filtration, lighting, basic equipment.

  • Stage 2 – Comfort: covers/enclosure, water treatment system, heating.

  • Stage 3 – Fun & Automation: countercurrent, cleaning robot, water attractions.

This division allows for quick installation—in as little as 5 days! And if, after a few months, you decide you want extra features, there will be no problem adding them.
